I purchased the Televes DatBoss Mix LR back in August of 2025 and due to not having any help putting it on my roof it took a while before I was able to put it up.
Once I did I faced another issue... in order to get the signal in the house I purchased a cheap coax ribbon cable, which I fed through a window, and thus was able to continue the cable run inside the house.
Unfortunately, while the old antenna was taken down, the ribbon cable tore in half and I was not able to get a signal in the house without either
- a) keeping the window open
- b) drilling through the brick wall
...therefore I ended up buying new ribbon cables and dealing with the window being opne for a couple of days.
This brought to my attention something that I knew, but didn't consider.
The quality of the ribbon cable!!!
I had seen a better quality one but didn't want to wait too long to get the cable ordered. So I went with the cheaper one. I discovered that the cheaper cable, gave me a 10% signal loss on some of my channels and I would have been much better waiting for the other better quality one. Oh, well... c'est la vie.
Once I got channels scanned in to my HDhomerun and my TV I saw that I was picking up channels that I hadn't before, but I also lost one channel that I was hoping to pick up on a regular basis. The one particular channel that I wanted wasn't coming in and I noticed that I had too many ridges in the way, plus dealing with a 70+ mile distance from the tower I had to accept that I wasn't going to pick up that channel where I currently live.
All the other channels have come in strong, but some windy nights have shifted the antenna slightly and now I have to realign it a bit to get the signals I wanted. I have been thinking about getting a Televes Smartkom and combining with an omni-directional antenna that I have to pick up the lost channel, but just specifically that. I get channels from three different places, but currently I don't pick up one channel with the DatBoss because it's pointing in between two of the places. The third location has strong signals, so no matter which antenna I have I'd pick those up. My idea would have the DatBoss point toward the weakest channels, instead of in between, to get a better signal and the omni-directional for everything else and use the smartkom to combine.
