I'm hoping to educate people on free tv and cord-cutting.

This blog is meant to help people, espcially in Canada and the USA where people think they have to pay for television.

Beware of junky cheap antennas!!!

Junk Antenna
Antennas that are small and claim outrageous distance claims are junk and DO NOT reach these claims.
A large antenna is needed for long distances and reliably can reach about 70-80 miles at the most.
This also depends on terrain (hills in the way) or trees in the line of site of the transmitting antenna.

Urban Antenna
Although this is a small antenna, it is marketed properly (from a reputable company) with a 25 mile range.
This is a good antenna for a city (close-ish to the transmitter) and built for UHF frequencies.

Bigger outdoor antennas are the best way to go. There is a trade-off, however, the longer the elements the narrower the beam-width is.
This means that if a smaller antenna picked up channels from the side of where it was pointed, they may not be as strong, or may not be picked up anymore.
Below shows an antenna with a narrow beam-width, while also keeping signals strong. Underneath that is an antenna with a wide beam-width that can capture a wider array, but may not have the same stability.
Both are good outdoor antenna choices, depending on your needs.
